MCEDA is committed to workforce development efforts to promote careers in manufacturing. Through partnerships with local high schools, Calhoun Community College, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, and local industry leaders, we are addressing the rising need for skilled labor force in our community.
School Presentation Program
The MCEDA office along with its workforce development partners had implemented a program to educate high school students about technical and manufacturing career options upon graduation. Each session covers training and educational opportunities available through Calhoun Community college.
During the 2007-2008 school year, over 200 students in Morgan County learned about manufacturing through this effort. Curriculum is currently being enhanced to develop grade-specific presentation material.
Manufacturing Field Trips
In an effort to expose high school students to today's manufacturing environment, two field trip opportunities to local industries take place in the Spring. In 2008, over 50 high school students were able to experience the day-to-day operations of manufacturing facilities.
