Decatur-based M&D Mechanical Contractors recently received a $5.9 million contract from NASA for the A-3 Altitude Test Stand being constructed at the John C. Stennis Space Center in south Mississippi.
M&D received a one-year contract for the fire suppression and detection system for the stand, one of several task contracts that the company has received for the test stand project.
The new contract is part of a five-year contract M&D has with NASA for the test stand project. The initial contract was awarded in early 2010. The first task of the long-term contract, awarded for $6 million, involved fabricating and delivering steam piping and industrial water piping for use on the test stand. The company now is installing the piping into the test stand as part of a $3.2 million contract with NASA and is halfway through the project. M&D Mechanical Contractors is also installing the industrial water pump system for the test stand, a contract that was awarded for $450,000.
